According to BPBD of Balikpapan City, with high rainfall it can submerge road as high as ± 20 cm to 1.5 m within 3 hours. The purpose of this study was to find out how much run-off is in the ampal sub-watersheds and to find out the appropriate drainage channel capacity for the ampal sub-watersheds.</p> <p style="font-weight: 400;">The method used in this study is a rational method by counting the run off at the ampal sub-watersheds. In accounting runoff debIt, it had coefficient runoff for the ampal sub-watersheds, rain intentsity, and large area stream on the ampal sub-watersheds.</p> <p style="font-weight: 400;">The results of this study indicate that the run off for the return period, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 years for drainage channels in the study area are 0.0174 m3/s, 0.0205 m3/s, 0.0229 m<sup>3</sup>/s, 0.0267 m<sup>3</sup>/s, 0.0298 m<sup>3</sup>/s, 0.0334 m<sup>3</sup>/s. Capacity for drainage in the study area is 7,883 m3/s. Drainage capacities can accommodate the maximum incoming discharge.
