Abstract

Directorate Building, Graha Dewa Ruci Building, Post Graduate Building, Integration Laboratory Building, and Library Building are the center for academic and administrative activities of the Shipbuilding Institute of Polytechnic Surabaya (SHIPS). This study aims to determine the level of fire risk using a Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) qualitative method based on NFPA 551 of 2019 and redesigning a sprinkler system with water extinguishing media based on NFPA 13 of 2019 and SNI 03-3989-2000 to provide more protection for the building. From the risk assessment results, it was found that the level of fire risk was low in the Directorate Building, Graha Dewa Ruci Building, Post Graduate Building, Integration Laboratory Building, and Library Building after adding sprinklers and other active fire protection systems at risk control that can reduce the severity value. Based on the calculation results, the number of sprinkler heads needed is 883 pieces. Calculations on the farthest sprinkler head results from the redesign obtained pump head manually 117,541 m and pump head using Pipe Flow Expert software 121,157 m and pump power of 56,96 kW for manual calculations and 58,7 kW for calculations Pipe Flow Expert software.
